"CeCe" - Standard Longhair Female - 1 year old Standard Longhair Female. Very sweet. Is on the smaller side.
"Chevi" - Miniature Longhair Female - 5 years old. Retired champion. She is a big girl for a miniature. She is housebroke, very calm, and quiet. She is truly a lovely girl.
When adopting an adult...
- Adopting an adult is very rewarding! You can experience all the joys of dachshund ownership without enduring the trials of puppyhood. They are past the chewing and whining stages, and "know who they are."
- But....adopting an adult does require a little extra commitment and patience. Most adults leave at a young age (2-4), but have become accustomed to life here. Adapting to a new definitely home happens, but more slowly in most cases. You will become their people, it can just take a little longer. Think of it as learning the gives and takes of a new relationship.
- They are crate trained, and some have traveled extensively to shows.
- If for any reason they do not work out, or cannot be kept, they MUST be returned to Laurjosh. There is no guilt, no hassle, just return. In 30 years I've encountered only one dog that just could not adapt to house life. It is very rare.
- Males can have bad habits. Some lift their legs and will mark even after being neutered. I recommend belly band for boys, which can be purchased from Amazon.com. They are washable/reusable and work amazingly. That said, males often make the most lovable and loyal companions, and many will learn to forego any bad habits once they are neutered.
We have had great success in placing adults--male and female.
